Breeny was extubated a little after 11 a.m. (Utah time), and he is still doing well at 8:00 p.m.

The CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) is a soft little nose mask attached to a wee hat that provides him with oxygen and some pressure. It is set to “9”.

We will know over the next couple days if he needs to be reintubated by the amount of labor it takes him to breathe. The goal today has been to keep him calm. If a baby pitches a fit, they can fight against the machine and it won’t work.

Breeny has been doing terrifically well. He is confused by the new feeling, sometimes sticks out his lower lip, sometimes he cries in a hoarse little squeak. Then he goes to sleep for a while.

He’s initiating all of his breaths and maintaining a healthy oxygen saturation. Receiving prayers for ventilation.

When we take on breath or inspire spirit, we take on the spirit of here.
